Ferry accident kills 22 in Egypt

Fri, 29 Apr 2011 18:35:23 GMT
A minibus has fallen off a ferry into the Nile River in the southern Egyptian Beni Suef region, killing at least 22 people, officials say.

Authorities say the ferry was carrying the minibus loaded with 32 passengers. They say several bodies have been recovered so far.

Sources say the minibus had slid off the ferry because the emergency brake was not on.

Similar accidents have happened on the Nile over the past years.

One of the deadliest accidents was back in 2006, when a ferry sank in the river, killing more than 1,000 people.
