Iran taekwondo star wins gold in S Korea

Iranian taekwondo fighter Farzad Abdollahi has put in an excellent performance at the World Taekwondo Championships in Gyeongju, South Korea, and captured the gold medal in the men's under-80 kg category.
Abdollahi recorded impressive victories in his march to the final, and overcame Turkey's Yunus Sari 5-1 in the final to capture the gold medal on Tuesday, Fars news agency reported.
Iran has taken part in the World Taekwondo Championships with eight male and four female athletes. The event runs from May 1 to 6.
The six-day competitions have drawn almost 1,000 athletes from more than 140 countries.
The previous WTF World Taekwondo Championships were held in Copenhagen, Denmark in October 2009, attracting 928 athletes from a record 142 countries.
