The West has launched its decade-long war in the Middle East and Central Asia to rescue its ailing economy, a Middle East expert says.

“America, Britain and France face real economic difficulties, but strangely the economic difficulties mean the Americans in particular, and the British and French -- in less extent -- are prepared to use their military power to offset that economic decline,” Middle East expert Chris Bambery told Press TV.

To achieve that objective, “Firstly there was a plan to build a presence to circle Iran and other regimes that they regard as enemies in that area,” he pointed out.

Meanwhile, the US tries “to secure and control the oil and gas supplies of those regions, not only because the Americans rely on that oil and gas, but Europe and elsewhere rely on that and that gives the Americans a leverage over their so-called allies,” Bambery went on to say.

Moreover, the West tries to “look into ways for intervening in Arab revolutions,” the Middle East expert further added.
