A top Iranian military official says the nation's press and media community has what it takes to turn foreign propaganda into opportunities to further advance the ideals of the Islamic Revolution.

“In today's world, media, particularly the press, are regarded as the most important means of communication in societies, and play an undeniable role in channeling people's thoughts and shaping public opinion, especially at critical and determining junctures,” said Deputy Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces, Brigadier General Masoud Jazayeri.

He underscored in a statement released by the Joint Chiefs of Staff that the media are also instrumental in helping nations stand up to certain threats and perils.

In Iran, the media have played a central part in safeguarding the nation's legitimate rights in the field of nuclear technology and other arenas, he added.

General Jazayeri further touched upon the role of media in promoting the ideals of the Islamic Revolution.

The top Iranian military official said Iran takes pride in having media which “set the stage for free-thinking as well as proper and fair dissemination of information.”

He also hailed Iranian media outlets for their “prudence” and “sense of responsibility" in covering international developments, namely the recent events in the Middle East and North Africa.

“The media should be the eloquent voice of nations which are standing up for their rights and resisting hegemony,” General Jazayeri concluded.
