Iran FM arrives in Qatar for talks

Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi has arrived in the Qatari capital city of Doha on a formal visit to hold talks with senior officials of the country.

The Iranian minister was welcomed at Doha Airport by Qatari Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Ahmad Al Mahmoud and Iranian Ambassador to Doha Abdollah Sohrabi upon his arrival on Monday, IRNA reported.

Salehi is scheduled to meet Qatari Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani and Foreign Minister Sheikh Hamad bin Jassem bin Jabr al-Thani.

Iranian lawmaker Mohammad Karami-Rad and Hossein Amir Abdollahian, the director general of the Persian Gulf and Middle East Affairs Department of the Iranian Foreign Ministry, are accompanying Salehi in his Qatar trip.

The Islamic Republic of Iran and Qatar have taken positive steps towards promoting amicable relations in recent years. Senior officials of the two countries have exchanged several visits over the past five years.
