At least two Pakistani security men have been killed and three others injured when militants attacked a police vehicle in the southwestern province of Balochistan.

Police officials told a Press TV correspondent that the militants ambushed a police vehicle before dawn on Friday in the town of Mir Hasan, about 360 kilometers southeast of the provincial capital of Quetta, killing two security men while wounding three others.

Police killed one attacker and arrested another while the remaining two managed to escape from the scene.

The injured policemen are in critical condition.

Balochistan Province has been grappling with insurgency over the past few years.

Hundreds of people have been killed since the Baloch revolt in 2004. The rebels demand political autonomy and a greater share of profit from the region's wealth of oil, gas and mineral resources.

Despite having a rich supply of natural resources, the province has a very low living standard.
