An explosion at an army camp in the Pakistan-administered Kashmir has killed a Pakistani soldier and injured five others, a Pakistani official says.

Local administration chief Fareed Ahmed confirmed the incident early Friday, saying that the blast occurred around midnight (1900 GMT).

The investigating team has found one body, while five injured soldiers have been transferred to a local hospital, he noted.

He said that an investigation will be conducted to see if the explosion was caused accidentally by an electrical short circuit or it was an act of terrorism.

The blast triggered fire in Gulpar camp in Kotli district near the United Nations monitored Line of Control that divides the disputed Himalayan region between India and Pakistan, local police chief Malik Khalid told AFP by telephone.

The region is split between the two countries along the LoC and has triggered two of the three wars between the neighbors since their independence from Britain in 1947.

Overall militant violence in the region has declined since the countries began a peace process in 2004.
