Iran's Majlis (parliament) Speaker Ali Larijani says popular democracies will prevail in regional countries as nations in the Middle East will never succumb to the hegemony of global powers.

Speaking in a Thursday meeting with South Korea's Chief Justice Lee Yong-hoon in the Iranian capital of Tehran, Larijani said the double standard polices and adventurism of global powers have led to the ongoing situation in the Middle East, Majlis news agency (ICANA) reported.

“World powers still do not understand the realities of the region,” the top Iranian parliamentarian emphasized.

He touched upon matters such as human rights, democracy and sanctions, which have been raised against Iran by global powers and pointed out that the Iranian nation has resisted against such pressures since the victory of the Islamic Revolution and will continue to do so in the future.

Larijani expressed the Iranian parliament's support for enhanced and amicable relations with South Korea in all spheres.

The South Korean chief Justice, for his part, said the era of superpowers' unilateralism has passed and noted that regional nations will determine their destinies.

He expressed South Korea's interest to promote friendly ties with Iran and hoped that his discussions with senior Iranian officials would lead to further expansion of judicial exchanges between Seoul and Tehran.
