Egyptian Foreign Minister Nabil al-Arabi says he will meet his Iranian counterpart at the sidelines of the upcoming Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) meeting to dicuss developing ties.

Al-Arabi said the NAM meeting provided a good opportunity to discuss the development and normalization of ties between the two states with Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi, Fars News Agency reported on Wednesday.

The Egyptian official also said that the establishment of close ties between Cairo and Tehran did not pose a threat to the interests of Arab nations.

Last week, the Iranian Foreign Minister Salehi expressed the Islamic Republic's readiness to develop closer ties with Cairo in the near future.

Following the ouster of its pro-Western President Hosni Mubarak, the post-revolution Egypt looks poised to turn a new page in its relations with the Islamic Republic.

Iran severed ties with Egypt after Cairo signed the 1978 Camp David Accords with the Israeli regime and offered asylum to Iran's deposed monarch Mohammad-Reza Pahlavi.
