Texas wildfires have claimed the lives of two firefighters.
Wildfires across the US state of Texas have claimed the lives of two firefighters while engulfing over 730,000 hectares of land and nearly 400 homes across the southern state.

Ongoing wildfires in the state of Texas have killed volunteer firefighters Elias Jaquez, 49, and Gregory Simmons, 51, AFP reported.

Jaquez died of fire-related injuries after trying to control a fire near Dumas, Texas on Wednesday. Simmons lost his life after being struck by a vehicle as he was fleeing a trapped fire truck in a burning pasture.

As high temperatures are once again expected on Friday to follow a short-lasting cold front, Texan Governor Rick Perry has called for 'days of prayer for rain in the state of Texas' this weekend.

The state's fire service says that the region's drought would only be relieved by consecutive days of rain.

The fire started last week in the Possum Kingdom Lake area, joining other blazes in counties across the state.

Texas wildfires have destroyed over half a million hectares of land since last year.
