The missile was launched from an undisclosed location on Tuesday.
Pakistan has successfully test-fired a short-range surface-to-surface missile that is capable of delivering nuclear and conventional warheads, the military says.

The Pakistani army said in a statement on Tuesday that the nuclear-capable Hatf IX missile can hit targets 60 kilometers away, a Press TV correspondent reported.

The officials added that the missile has been developed to strengthen Pakistan's deterrence force.

Pakistan's President Asif Ali Zardari and Premier Yousuf Raza Gilani congratulated the nuclear scientists on successful missile test fire.

Nuclear-capable India and Pakistan, which have fought three wars -- two over the disputed Himalayan territory of Kashmir -- routinely carry out missile tests but normally notify each other in advance under an agreement.

Both neighbors have refused to sign the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and other treaties that restrict developing or testing nuclear weapons.

Relations between the two countries have been rocky over the past decades.
