A large number of Britons gathered before the Royal Institute of International Affairs in the British capital of London to protest the organization's reception of Israeli President Shimon Peres.
Scores of Britons protested the Chatham House institute's celebration of Israeli-British diplomatic ties on March 30.
The protesters voiced their support for Palestinians and condemned Israeli policies.
They chanted slogans such as “Peres is a war criminal,” and "Shimon Peres... we won't hide! We charge you with genocide."
They called for Peres' arrest for what he did during 2008-2009.
Spokesperson of the Palestinian forum in Britain Zahir Beirawi said that the protest was organized to condemn Chatham House act of receiving a war criminal for giving a lecture on the ties between the two countries.
Beirawi also said that an official member of Chatham House backed Israeli crimes in Palestine.
“The time has come for this government to be honest with itself and its people and to stop giving Israel a cover for its crimes,” he said.
Another protest was held after Peres arrived in Switzerland.
Richard Burden, MP, has condemned Israeli policies, saying, "UK government policy on arms sales to Israel has a Catch 22 quality about it. But it is no laughing matter. People living under occupation in the West Bank and under blockade in Gaza know that.”
"People are rightly demanding stricter controls on arms exports to a number of countries in North Africa and the Middle East. We should apply the same rigor to decisions over license applications for arms sales to Israel,” he said.
