Iranian shooter takes Olympic berth

Iranian female shooter Elaheh Ahmadi has won the silver medal of the 10-meter air rifle event of the 2011 International Shooting Sport Federation World Cup to grab a spot at the London Olympic shooting competition.
Ahmadi stood the second on Wednesday in the Australian capital Sydney to secure an Olympic quota place with a total score of 502.2 points, less than one point shy of Croatia's Snjezana Pejcic who won the gold with 502.6 points.
The 28-year old athlete, ranked 48th in the world, had never made it to a World Cup final round, before.
Ahmadi entered the final match in the lead with 399 points, tied to the 2008 Olympic Bronze medalist Pejcic, and shot consistently throughout the whole match to secure a spot on the podium.
The third Olympic quota place went to Ukraine's flag bearer Darya Tykhova.
More than 700 shooters from 68 countries are competing in Sydney, where the second leg of this year's ISSF World Cup Series is held.
The competition started on Wednesday and will last until March 31 at the 2000 Olympic Shooting Range of Sydney.
Thirty-four Olympic Quota places will be assigned in 15 events throughout the championship.
Mahlaqa Jambozorg stood first at Germany World Cup last year to become the first Iranian shooter qualified for Olympics.
