Separate attacks in Iraq have killed a senior army officer, a police officer and a member of an anti-Qaeda squad and injured eight others.

Lieutenant Colonel Yussef Mohammad, based in the defense ministry, was killed while driving on an expressway in the east of the capital by a magnetic bomb that had been placed under his car, an interior ministry source said.

In another incident, a police officer was killed and three others wounded after their patrol was blown up by a bomb, in Baghdad.

In a district south of Baghdad, three people including two soldiers were injured by a bomb that exploded on a main road, according to AFP.

Also in the eastern district of Sheikh Omar, a device exploded as a convoy passed carrying administrative director of the central bank, Ali Hassen Abu Naila, and injured two of his guards.

Earlier, an interior ministry source said the attack had targeted a member of the department of finance and injured three passers-by.

A member of the anti-al-Qaeda militia in Kirkuk was murdered outside his home 230 kilometers (145 miles) north of Baghdad, police said.

Al-Qaeda in Iraq has been blamed for some of the deadliest terrorist attacks in the country since the US-led invasion of the country began in 2003.
