Japanese giant automaker Honda Motors has announced that it would recall about 700,000 vehicles worldwide due to faulty engine parts.

The company said on Thursday the recall of 693,497 vehicles affects some models of the Fit compact, the City small car and Freed compact minivan models.

Honda spokeswoman Natsuno Asanuma said no accidents have been reported as the result of the defects.

The affected cars were sold in North America, Asia-Pacific, Latin America, the Middle East and Africa.

The lost motion spring parts, which are compressed by rocker arms in normal engine use, may bend or break over time, resulting in abnormal engine noise and potentially causing engine stalling and problems re-starting.

Honda says owners of the affected vehicles should take their cars to an authorized dealer as soon as possible once they receive a notice by mail.

In 2010, Honda Motor recalled more than 2 million cars and trucks.

Earlier this month, the world's top carmaker Toyota recalled almost 1.7 million cars across the world for likely fuel leaks.
