Stephen Timms was taken to hospital with "non-life threatening injuries," a Scotland Yard official said.
Stephen Timms, a British Member of Parliament and treasury minister of the former Labour government, has been stabbed twice in the abdomen.

Timms, who was stabbed at his constituency office in Newham, London, during an open meeting on Friday, was rushed to a local hospital where authorities pronounced his injuries as "not life threatening."

The 54-year-old is currently recovering from the attack.

"Stephen Timms had surgery yesterday evening at the Royal London Hospital to repair his stab wounds," said a hospital spokeswoman, the BBC reported.

According to officials, "he has received visitors and is in good spirits," Reuters reported.

A 21-year-old woman, who was arrested at the scene, has been held in custody in an East London police station. Police believe she may be connected to the incident.
